The Drennan Acolyte Float 17ft, a super slim, ultra-lightweight and superbly balanced rod weighing in at less than 7oz (198g). Designed to provide the very best possible line management and control and light enough to easy to fish for prolonged periods. With superb a fast tip action and mellow middle that will handle a whole range of silverfish and more. A great choice for top and bottom work, especially in deep running water and for picking up the line at distance on the waggler. The slimline blank is also rigid so it doesn’t bounce about in a wind, or droop forward but actually sits up in the hand.. Ideal reel lines from 3lb to 5lb (1.4kg to 2.3kg) and hooklengths from 2lb (0.11mm) to 4lb + (0.15mm).

Hi all Is the Drennan Acolyte 17ft rod suitable for chub up to 5lb on the river Tone please?

Hi Will, thanks for the question. Drennan say in the product video that this will cope with bigger fish but also be light enough for smaller fish too. If the venues you fish aren’t snaggy I would say you could get away with it. However Drennan do a stepped up version of this which I will link HERE for you to view. Hope this helps.
