Having been a long-time fan of the Pioneer, and particularly of the ease in which it is erected and put away, I was keen to try out the Tempest, having been told that it was the next step forward from that winning design. Soon after first using a Tempest I decided that it was every bit exactly that and then some. After just two nights I could erect the Tempest in around a minute, including pegs and groundsheet, and once up it continued to impress. I have now done a few more nights under the Tempest and it gets better every time. Unlike the Pioneer, and all of the other non-pram-hood bivvies that I have tested, the contour of the ribs increases the internal space considerably, without any significant increase in footprint. I can easily push my bedchair to the back of the bivvy and have plenty of space still left at the front. This often means that I do not need the front panel attached, even in the rain, because I am comfortably tucked away in the bivvy. On the subject of front panels, there is a mozzie window on the door and each side, which I much prefer to full mozzie fronts. I wouldnt entertain using a bivvy with no rear vents these days, and the Tempest boasts one either side of the rear-most rib. Finally, I have to return to the point about ease of use. The unique and innovative block system is superb. Simply unroll the Tempest, pop each elasticated rib together and pull the lower section of the block up to meet the other piece. Slide the retaining sleeve onto the handle and its job done.

Only rated as good, disappointed that no plastic window is supplied. Further zip broke on second outing. Structure design is brilliant, but too early to tell how reliable it will be. Overall disappointed that Trakker have let this product down.

Although its extremely early to say so, this bivvy could just be the product launch of the year. The Tempest, which boasts the Aquatexx material, is a completely new design for shelters and utilises a system that is so easy to use that it makes the pram-hood look complicated! It looks similar to the popular Pioneer, but instead of coming together in two parts, as that one does, this works on more of a pull-round system. I cannot stress enough just how simple it is to erect, literally in a minute or so. Once up, the Tempest retains a slight Pioneer look to it, but the bar system is such that there is much more room inside, despite a similar footprint. What I really like is that, despite its ease of use and transportability, there is ample room for the wider bedchairs that are so popular with modern carp anglers. This is because the poles have been designed so that there is more height around the edges and absolutely no space is wasted. Youll see what I mean in the pictures. Ive only been able to play with the Tempest and have not yet used one on the bank. By the time you read this there should be Tempests available in your local Trakker dealer. Trust me, its well worth taking a look, despite the whopping price tag!
