Baitrunner/Freespin Reels
|
A baitrunner or free spin reel has an extra clutch function that other reels do not have. It is used to let line flow freely from the spool when the bail-arm is engaged, but with a quick turn of the handle or flicking the switch back the normal drag tension is set again. A function generally used in modern carp fishing but has been adapted to other methods of fishing as well. The original Baitrunner was developed by Shimano (Shimano Baitrunners) in the 1970's and following on from this other comanies like Daiwa, Korum, & Drennan brought out there own versions of this iconic reel known as freespin, freespool or bite & run reels.
