How to use Black Lug
The best way to use frozen black lugworm is to combine it with a few fresh blow lug to form a big bulky bait maybe 15 to 20cms long with lots of smell to entice cod and bass. It will also catch used on its own being the best of all winter baits for big dabs and cod.
For cod and bass, present the black lug on a pennel rig (two hooks in tandem, the top hook sliding freely on the line) and push it up the trace to make a fat sausage shape. Whole mackerel are popular for boat and shore fishing when large baits are needed for big fish, but the packs of fillets prove more convenient and are a time-saver when targeting smaller species like dabs, whiting and gurnards. Frozen crab baits can give you a big edge during the late winter months when it will out fish worm baits, especially over rougher ground. Cod in particular respond well to it, and it also proves a consistent taker of coal fish, dogfish, flounders and bass. You don’t read about it in the magazines much, but try frozen peeler for summer and autumn ballan and cuckoo wrasse from the deep water rock marks as it often out fishes fresh.

Little used by anglers on the whole, but a very productive and consistent bait. Highly successful for late winter flounder after gales and storms when these shellfish get washed ashore in the hundreds.
Razor fish are soft fleshed, but slide them whole or in sections over the hook shank with the harder fleshed foot of the razor nearest the hook point. A few wraps of bait elastic can be used to further secure it if preferred without damaging presentation.

Frozen Medium Sized Sand Eels
Sand eel can often be the make-or-break bait for the angler during a trip and can entice fish to feed when other baits are totally ignored. Whole small or medium sand eels are most effective for rays, huss, whiting, turbot, brill, dogfish, pollack and bass in clear water.
There are various ways of presentation, but most effective is to use a thin baiting needle passed through the tail to the head.
